May 4, 2026

Land Acknowledgement

We affirm that we are all treaty people and acknowledge that the York Region District School Board is located on the lands of two treaties. These treaties are signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the First Nations of the Williams Treaties who are: the Mississaugas of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Scugog Island; and the Chippewas of Beausoleil, Rama, and Georgina Island our closest neighbour and partner in education.

To honour this agreement we will take up our responsibility to be respectful of their traditions, knowledges and inherent rights as sovereign nations. We will respect their relationship with these lands and recognize that our connection to this land is through the continued relationship with these First Nations, and we acknowledge our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.

Treasurer’s Report

Finance summary

 

  • This year, the school council has raised approximately $40000.  We have spent almost $25000 on technology, field trips, scientists in the school, X-movement, grade 8 grad, buses, and angel fund.  
  • (We started the year with $14295 in our account).
  •  
  • As of May 4, 2026, the school council currently has $35846.27 in the combined general, pizza, and sub funds.  
  • However, we still need to pay for the pizza and subs for the rest of the year.  
  • Everything else we had budgeted for, except the teacher's wish list of $2000, has come out of the account.

-clubs - Jr soccer, baseball, hockey, dance, coding, spoken poetry, sewing class, 

-after school French, Art and Music classes

-more art on the walls

-no YREAA Jr soccer (only Intermediate)

-sewing (existing program that comes to schools)

-one ticket = $1.00

-ticket sales 10 ticket $10; 22 tickets for $20; 60 tickets for $50

-game bracelet for all games 

 

-big games - plinko, basketball net, coconut shy, duck pick, peanut dip, cornhole, ring toss, giant checkers (students running games only)

 

-need prizes for duck pick and peanut dip (do we do tickets as prizes)

 

-face painting, tattoos and bracelet-making (separate from games bracelet)  

 

-slime the Admin

 

-can only buy tickets at Ticket table, no where else

 

-separate email for Fun Fair, can we do a paper copy

 

-follow-up meeting May 19th @6pm

-visiting the 7s and 8s tomorrow for the games (Bryana and Sarah)

 

-announcements out this week, starting auditions May 11 (Darlene)

 

-need student volunteers and staff volunteers
